TEACHING MY FIRST SKILLSHARE CLASS

Are you a budding artist who would love to learn my process for painting a pet portrait? Would you love to learn how to paint with acrylics but don’t know where to start?

When I decided to create my first Skillshare class, I knew exactly what I wanted to share: the art of painting pet portraits from a reference photo, tailored especially for beginners. If you’re not familiar with Skillshare the classes are structured into smaller lessons meaning you can work through them at your own pace earning completion badges as you go. Here are just some of the lessons I feature in my Class:

  • Materials

  • How to Find A Good Reference Photo

  • Preparing Your Palette

  • Starting Your Painting

  • Adding Layers of Colour

  • Finer Details

Each Class on Skillshare is supported by a Class Project. I challenge each of my students to have a go at painting their very own pet portrait using the techniques I teach. You can either use the reference photo I provide or use one of your own photographs. There are also lots of great reference images you can find on sites like Unsplash and Pixabay.

Filming and Editing

Filming my first ever Class was a learning curve but I loved every second! I have huge respect for how much work is involved in filming, editing and refining each video to ensure clarity and coherence. It’s also really important to have a Class structure in place and a script to work from. Planning is key! If you are thinking to embark on your making your first Skillshare Class I would highly recommend this video on how to plan, publish and promote an engaging class.

Crafting Content

My goal was to create content that educates and inspires people to paint for pleasure and to feel confident in their skills and techniques . I drew on experience and knowledge gained from painting over the years and studying subjects ranging from colour theory to value relationships. It was important for me to keep beginner artists in mind and to keep the tips easy to understand and effective to implement.

The Joy of Teaching

Launching my first Skillshare class was a fun experience, I would describe it as a labor of love, fueled by passion and a desire to empower others to explore their artistic potential. As I continue to grow as an artist and educator, I look forward to sharing more of my knowledge and experiences with the world, inspiring others to unleash their creativity and pursue their artistic dreams.

Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner taking your first steps on your creative journey, remember that every brushstroke is an opportunity to express yourself and connect with the world around you. So pick up that brush, embrace the journey, and let your creativity soar. Happy painting!
